Meldrim - Willie (Wilbert) Smith, born July 7, 1935, a native of Portal, GA, and a long time resident of Meldrim, GA, passed away at Hospice Savannah on March 13, 2012, after a very brief illness. Willie retired from the United States Coast Guard and Moran Tug Boats of Savannah, GA. He was a member of Richard T. Turner #116 Masonic Lodge, Bloomingdale, GA, The Scottish Rite Valley of Savannah and Alee Temple Shrine in Savannah. He attended Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and Meldrim United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, and mother of his children, Jeannette Marie Parra Smith and by his parents, T. H. Smith, Jr. and Lillie Mae Key Smith; brothers, Waldo H. Smith, Robert Smith, Alton R. Smith and his wife Carolyn Smith and a sister, Miriam Smith. He is survived by his children, Mary Fay Smith of Eden and Giovanni and Angela Smith of Powhatan, Virginia and one Granddaughter; and by his wife, Sherry Mosely Smith of Meldrim. He is also survived by a sister, Janie S. Donaldson of Savannah; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Smith of Bloomingdale; a brother and sister-in-law, H.C. and Miriam Smith of Garfield, GA; a brother-in-law, Lonnie (Jessie) Parra of Cut Off, Louisiana; three step children, Joan Mayo of Plano, Texas, Stephanie Sasser of Richardson, Texas and Jeff Sasser of Houston, Texas; five step grandchildren and 4 step great-grandchildren; and by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 15, 2012 at the funeral home. The funeral to honor Mr. Smith's life will be 11 a.m. on Friday, March 16, 2012 in the chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Rick Holt officiating. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Donaldson, Joey Smith, Robert Smith, Danny Davis, Kenneth Tapley and Jimmy McNeely. Music will be provided by Bonnie Meeks and Pat Durrence. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Abbey West on Dean Forest Road where Military Honors and Masonic Rites will be observed. Thomas C.
