Ada Marie
Carpenter Allen Payne
March 15, 2021
Savannah – Ada Marie Carpenter Allen Payne passed away on Monday, March 15, 2021.
Marie (she didn't care for the name, Ada, even though it was a tribute to her grandmother, Ada Bell Smith Liles) was the daughter of William S. Carpenter and Annie Bell Liles. She was the only sister to William "Sumner" Carpenter and Leroy Carpenter, both deceased.
Marie graduated from Walnut High School in Vance, MS in 1950. That same year she married Gerald Allen. They had one child together, Annette "Ann" Coleman (James). In 1960, she married Joe W. Payne, the father of David Payne (Sandy) and Ronald "Ronnie" Payne. Ronnie was a casualty of the Viet Nam War. Together with Joe, Marie had two children, Janet "Jan" Leggett (Jerry) and James "Bo" (Bethany); 5 grandchildren, Aaron Coleman (Virginia), Jeremy Leggett, Jessica Leggett, Daniel Payne (Jessi) and Jeanna Leggett Bowlin (Josh); and 7 great-grandchildren, Zane, Tori, Jessalyn, Dylan, Bryce, James and Jace.
Her family wishes to give special thanks to her caregivers at Nurturing Alliance Personal Care Home, Ms. Brenda, Ms. Cheryl and Ms. Danielle.
Visitation will be at 9 – 10 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home and the service will follow in the chapel at 10 a.m. Entombment will follow at Hillcrest Abbey West.
