Albert Henry Allen, Jr.
Albert H. Allen, Jr., age 70, of Clyo, Georgia, passed away on August 26 at his residence, surrounded by his family.
Al grew up in Clyo, Georgia, and was a proud 1974 graduate of Effingham County High School. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, farmer, and friend. He spent many years farming in Effingham County and took great pride in the land and the farming community. Farming was more than an occupation for Al; it was a way of life and an integral part of who he was. For many years, his summers revolved around delivering his fresh produce to grocery stores and farmers’ markets across Effingham County and Savannah.
As a lifelong member of Laurel Hill Lutheran Church, his faith and church family were important parts of his life. Al was also deeply involved in agriculture and served as president of the Effingham County Farm Bureau from 1989 to 1999. He was a member of the Georgia Young Farmers Association, a lifetime member of the Georgia Salzburger Society, and served on the Effingham County Fair Committee for many years.
Al was an avid baseball and softball player and a lifelong hunter. He loved the camaraderie and friendships that came with playing ball. For many years, he played on the Laurel Hill Lutheran Church softball team before joining many of his friends on the B&B traveling softball team. Some of his fondest memories were made on the ball field, surrounded by good friends.
Al was also a passionate Georgia Bulldogs fan. Saturdays in the fall were special, and he loved cheering for his Dawgs with family and friends. These Saturday traditions and the simple joy of gathering to watch Georgia football will be memories his family treasures forever.
Above all, Al loved his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Rebecca Futch Allen; his son, Andrew Allen (Sarah) of Clyo; and his daughter, Ashlyn Allen Tebeau (Timothy) of Clyo. He was a proud grandfather to Ella Grace Tebeau, Olivia Allen, Nash Tebeau, Clark Allen, and Cohen Tebeau, all of Clyo. He is also survived by his sisters, Ruth Quattlebaum of Savannah, Georgia, and Jeannette Burns (Joe) of Newington, Georgia.
Al was preceded in death by his parents, Albert H. Allen, Sr. and Edna Allen, and his brother-in-law, Julian Quattlebaum.
The family will receive friends at Laurel Hill Lutheran Church at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Laurel Hill Lutheran Church Youth Fund.
