MR. ALEX CECIL McNEELY, SR.

Bloomingdale - Mr. Alex Cecil McNeely, Sr., 84, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 17, 2009 under the care of Hospice of Savannah.

He was born in Washington County but lived most of his life in Garden City. He was a member of the Chapel-in-the-Gardens Presbyterian Church for many years and in 1990 he was ordained as a Deacon and served for 16 years. He retired from Southern States Phosphate and Fertilizer Company in 1988. He was a volunteer for the Pooler Crossroads Chamber of Commerce Visitors Center.

Alex loved woodworking, gardening, NASCAR, and the Atlanta Braves. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Mathew and Ola McNeely, his first wife, Anne Davis McNeely, brothers, Dennie Frank McNeely, Sr., and Thomas McNeely, and a son-in-law, Gary Norton.

He is survived by his wife, Nita McNeely of Bloomingdale, daughter, Gloria Norton, son, Alex Cecil McNeely, Jr., of Faulkville, grandson, Jeremy Norton of Savannah, step children, Denise Carter of Ellabell, Michael Wooten of Savannah and Lou Wooten of Faulkville, a sister, Annette Johnson Barfoot (Barnard) of Milledgeville, two sisters-in-law, Alice McNeely of Savannah, and Dean McNeely of Tennille, 8 step grandchildren, 2 step great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a devoted dog, Roxie.

Visitation will be 6 - 8 P.M. Thursday at Thomas C. Strickland and Sons Funeral Home (West Chatham Chapel) in Pooler.

Funeral services will be 2 P.M. Friday at the Chapel-in-the-Gardens Presbyterian Church with burial to follow in Greenwich Cemetery.
