Mr. Alfred B. Clayton, Sr., 78, died on Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at St. Joseph's
Hospital.
The Chatham County native was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Clayton. He was
a faithful member of Port Wentworth Christian Missionary Alliance Church where he
served on various committees and had served as the Children's Director. He was the
former director of Child Evangelism in the Savannah area and had participated in several
bike rides across Georgia [B.R.A.G.] He was a member of the Port Wentworth Senior
Citizens and volunteered with Meals on Wheels. He retired from Stone Container after
44 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Victoria Clayton of Port Wentworth; children, Betty
Fountain of Savannah, Al Clayton, Jr. of Port Wentworth, Tina Prince of Hampton and
Bruce Clayton of Ellabell; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Enoch
"Toy" Clayton of Savannah; sister, Betty Cail of Savannah and a number of nieces and
nephews.
The visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, January 25, 2008 at the Port Wentworth
Christian Missionary Alliance Church located at 222 Cantyre Street.
The funeral to honor Mr. Clayton will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2008 at the
Port Wentworth Christian Missionary Alliance Church with the Rev. John Smith
officiating. Mr. Clayton will lie in state from 9-10 a.m. at the Church. Burial will follow
at Hillcrest Abbey East Cemetery on Wheaton Street.
