Alonza Lee Burns
Kildare – Alonza Lee Burns, 88, passed peacefully into eternal rest surrounded by his family on Sunday, December 28, 2014 at Effingham Care Center.
He was a lifelong resident Effingham County, a retired farmer, Army veteran of World War II, and an avid outdoorsman with a passion for his family and Black and Tan coonhounds. He was the founder of Busy B Hunting Club and was recently inducted into the GA Coon Hunter's Association Hall of Fame. He was a member of North Newington Baptist Church, former Deacon at Newington Baptist Church, and had served on the Effingham County Department of Family and Children's Services Board.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alonza Brantley Burns and Annie Jane Daley Burns; brothers, L. E. Burns and Willie Lloyd Burns; sister, Rhena Wright.
He is survived by his former wife of 53 years, Maude W. Burns; children, Andy A. and Patty Burns, Rhonda B. and Timmy Rodewolt, and Sheryl B. and Bill Smith; six grandchildren, Christopher and Dena Rodewolt, Daniel and Nicole Rodewolt, Ryan and Kelly Burns, Stacey and Kip Spence, Brantley Burns, and Heather Smith; 5 great-grandchildren; brother, W.E. Burns; sister, Miriam Price; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at North Newington Baptist Church.
Interment will be in the church cemetery.
