Mrs. Amelia Heidt Dominy
Rincon- Mrs. Amelia Heidt Dominy, 82, lost her life, but never her spirit, to cancer on Tuesday, October 20, 2015.
Born September 29, 1933, in Marlow, GA, to the late Jacob & Willie Lee Heidt, Amelia was the wife of the late Olin Dominy. She was preceded in death by one brother, Ewell Heidt (Elizabeth), six sisters, Margaret Mooney (David), Birdie Strickland (Clyde), Minnie Butler (Harold), Odell Wise (Dockie), Doris Wallace (William), Sonia Siebert (Ken), and brothers-in-law Henry Harden, Alvin Patrick, Thomas Peth, and Perry Dominy.
Amelia embodied a generous spirit, a childlike joy for life, and a contagious laugh, and her faith, humor, and positive attitude always guided her. She was always up for an adventure, fun to be around, and loved to be the life of the party. She was a devoted Christian, and St. John's Lutheran Church, Rincon, was very meaningful in her life. She sang in the church choir for more than 50 years, served countless meals there, and joyfully helped wherever needed. As a member of the King's Daughters and Sons, she spent many summers in Chautauqua, NY, cooking for students. She volunteered at the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum, and enjoyed gardening, traveling, playing cards and games, taking boat rides with family, spending time with loved ones, and cooking for everyone.
Survivors include her three children, Janice Tholstrup (David) of Chapin, SC, Glen Dominy (Christina) of Oviedo, FL, and Amy Estes (Steven) of Savannah, GA; sisters, Lida Peth, Mary Harden, Maree Patrick, brother, Charlie Heidt (Melinda), sister-in-law, Elizabeth Dominy, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was blessed with seven grandchildren, Greta Beach (Bill), Sarah Ostenfeld (Neil), Alex LePage (Emily), Sophi Dominy, Leighson, Lilia, and Tapley Estes; and two great-grandchildren, Ethan LePage and Olive Ostenfeld. Her dearest friends, Stella Seckinger and Dorie Hamilton, were like family to her.
Visitation: Thursday, October 22, 6pm-8pm at Strickland Funeral Home, Rincon.
Funeral: Friday, October 23, 11am at St. John's Lutheran Church, Rincon.
Interment: Rincon Cemetery.
