Rincon – Annie Lou McKenzie Shuman passed away peacefully December 9, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
She was an Emanuel County native and graduated from Newington High School, class of 1950 with 17 other students. She was the captain of her high school basketball team, a dedicated Air Force wife for many years, and later retired as a dispatcher from Dixie Crystal Sugar Transport. She was an avid bowler for many years, was a competitive Parcheesi player just like her parents were, and loved her time working at Live Oak Public Library in Rincon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joel Oscar McKenzie and Carrie Lou Conner McKenzie; as well as her sister, Macy Hendrix.
Survivors include her children, Jackie Merritt, Robert Merritt, Jr. (Debbie), and Lisa Asmus; brother, Joel Lewis McKenzie (Olleen); grandchildren, Melissa Caldwell (Chris), Brandon Childs (Klaudia), Matthew Asmus, and Blake Hollis (Bryan); great-grandchildren, Connor Caldwell, Morgan Caldwell, Hayden Hollis, Violet Childs, and Skyler Childs.
Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be 12 noon Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at the funeral home chapel.
Interment will follow at 2 p.m. in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
