"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful." 2 Timothy 4:7 Arthur Lee Helmey, Jr., of Guyton, Georgia, passed away at home on September 1, 2026 at the age of 74. Artie, as he was known to family and friends, was born on October 14, 1951 to Arthur Lee Helmey and Patricia Sessions Helmey in Savannah, Georgia. He was raised on Wilmington Island and graduated from Savannah High School in 1969. He played football for two years for Gordon Military College in Barnesville, Georgia. Artie spent many years playing on men's softball teams across Savannah and coached his son's football and baseball teams until middle school. Artie worked in construction sales for many years until his retirement in 2016. After attending the Walk to Emmaus in 1996, Artie and his wife, Susan, served on many Chrysalis, Journey, and Walk to Emmaus Teams. Artie's passion then became serving in the Kairos Prison Ministry. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Susan Davidson Helmey of Guyton; daughter, Erin Turner of Atlanta, Georgia; son Shaun (Amanda) Helmey of Milton, Georgia; siblings, Gary (Sherry) Helmey, Dale Cunningham, and Deidra (Danny) Jeffcoat; grandchildren, Griffin Turner, Grayson Helmey, and Kenzie Helmey. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in remembrance of Artie to Kairos Prison Ministry, P.O. Box 1153, Springfield, GA 31329. The visitation will be on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 from 11 a.m. until 12 noon at Maranatha Family Church located at 454 Weisenbaker Road in Rincon, Georgia. The funeral to honor Artie's life will follow at 12 noon in the sanctuary of the church. A private burial for the family will follow. Thomas C.
