Mr. Austin B. "Sonny" Gunter, Jr., 81, of Port Wentworth, passed away on Sunday, April 22, 2018 at Memorial Health University Medical Center.

He was born in Aiken, South Carolina and had lived in Pooler for many years before moving to Port Wentworth.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Austin B. & Helen Louise Gunter, Sr., daughters, Debbie Baughman and Bee Hornsby, and a son, Tommy Gunter.  He retired from Enmark Stations Inc./Colonial Oil.  He attended Central Baptist Church, enjoyed fishing and playing the guitar.

Survivors include his wife and the love of his life, Clara E. Gunter; children, Richard A. Gunter, Laura Quesinberry (Mike), Kenneth Gunter (Brandy) and Tammy G. Phillips (James); grandchildren, Scott Hargroves (Holly), Thomas Myers, Austin B. Myers, Rylee Gunter, Raiana Gunter, Shelly Young, Cody Gunter, Adam Hargroves, Casey Layne, Robert Cooper and 7 additional grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Funeral: 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of the funeral home with burial to follow at Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery.
