Bloomingdale-Mrs. Barbara Purnell Gilbert, 45, died on Friday, August 22, 2008 at St.
Joseph's Hospital.
Barbara was born in Chatham County and was preceded in death by her father, Herman
R. Purnell, Jr.
Survivors include her husband, Keith Gilbert of Bloomingdale; mother, Myra Purnell of
Meldrim; three brothers, Randy & Linda Purnell of Rincon, Rev. Steve & Tammy Purnell
of Sylvania and Ronnie & Jean Purnell of Meldrim; cousin, Dennis Purnell of Guyton and
several nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, August 24, 2008 at the Thomas C.
Strickland & Sons Funeral Home, West Chatham Chapel in Pooler.
The funeral to celebrate Barbara's life will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 25, 2008 in
the chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Steve Meguiar officiating. Pallbearers will be
Lamar Dowd, Kyle Purnell, Denny Purnell, Austin Purnell, Justin Purnell and Brian
Purnell. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Meldrim.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that remembrances may be given to the American
Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Blvd, Suite 1010, Rockville, MD 20852.
