Bartimus Cubbedge Phillips

Born May 3rd, 1927, in Guyton, Georgia, moved to Miami, Florida in 1927, where he remained. He graduated from Miami Edison High School "Go Raiders" and attended the University of North Georgia before transferring to the University of Miami. He married Mary Nell Schoettle, July 14th, 1951.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Mary Nell. He is survived by his five children, Alicia (Spiegel), Carolina (Callis), Rebecca (McCartney), Bartimus Phillips (Anita), and Marilyn (Fronte), 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

He was a lifelong member and deacon of Central Baptist Church of Miami and regularly attended New Providence Baptist Church in Guyton, GA when he was able. Besides being very active with several ministries within the Church, he was also the Boy Scout Master of Troop 1 of Miami for over 40 years. The friendships continue today with several scouts. He was employed as a manufacturing representative for commercial and industrial plumbing, representing many well-known companies such as Sloan Valve Co, Josam and Duriron for over 50 years with Norman Ascher & Associates. He enjoyed camping, canoeing, hiking, scuba diving, and was conscious of all Florida's environmental issues.

He passed away peacefully surrounded by family.

The family is receiving friends for visitation from 11am - 12pm, Saturday, December 14th, 2024 at Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home in Rincon, Georgia. Burial at Guyton Cemetery 12:30pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Vitas Hospice or Friends of the Everglades.
