Pooler - Bernice Bevill Hicks, 95, died Wednesday August 19, 2008, at Spanish Oaks under the care of Hospice.
She was a native of Savannah, was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church where she served on many committees, member of the UDC chapter #2 Georgia State Flowers judge emeritus, membership in the national Council of Garden Clubs of Georgia, past President of the Pooler Garden Club and original leader and founder of the Old Louisville Rd. 4-H Club. Preceded in death by parents Garndville and Carrie Jones Bevill. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas R. Hicks and son Thomas Bevill Hicks and sister Thelma Bevill Thorpe.
Survivors include son and daughter in law, Richard M. and Myrtle Y. Hicks of Rincon; Grandchildren, Lori Ann Hicks Velasquez, and husband Jose of Clyo, Janet Hicks Stephens and husband Tony of Rincon, Michael and wife Michelle Hicks of Alabama, Jason and wife Sheila Hicks also of Alabama. She also has 10 great grand-children and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. at Bonaventure Cemetery with visitation to follow interment, Thursday, August 21, Father Gavin Dumbar of St. John's and assisted by Rev. Jose Velasquez of Mizpah United Methodist Church will officiate.
