Mrs Bertie Mae Barnes Rotureau went home to be with her Lord and Savior on April 10, 2023, just shy of her 90 ^th birthday. Born June 15, 1933, in Leefield, GA to John and Leila Hawkins Barnes, she graduated from Brooklet High School in Bulloch County in 1950. She worked as a bank teller in Statesboro then Savannah, where she met and soon married Joseph L Rotureau, Sr on Sept 12, 1952. They lived in Thunderbolt, GA until 1964 when they moved to Chattanooga, TN upon Joe's work transfer with the Central of Georgia (Norfolk Southern) Railroad. She continued working as a bank teller in Chattanooga with Hamilton National Bank until she decided to go to nursing school. After earning her LPN from Erlanger School of Nursing she went on to earn her degree as an RN in 1984. She worked at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga, and later as a school nurse at the McCallie School for Boys.

Bertie was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Chattanooga. She loved cooking, gardening, attending plays and shows, and spending time with family and friends.  She was most famous for the best homemade pound cakes made on this earth; whether a family member or a friend was sick, celebrating a birthday or for any reason whatsoever a cake was sure to be given with love. She especially loved being surrounded and doing things with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She always cherished their family vacations together at the Norfolk Southern Railroad's Brosnan Forest retreat in South Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Joseph L Rotureau, Sr, and daughter Jane (Tom) Robertson of Cleveland, TN. Also preceding her in death were her siblings, Evelyn (Willie) Barnhill (Johnny) Williams, Harold (Dolly) Barnes, Marguerite (Earl) Ginn, Martha (Hubert) Williams, and Johnny Barnes, Jr., all of Savannah.

Survivors include her son Joseph L Rotureau, Jr (Vicki) of Guyton, GA, five grandchildren: Kate Robertson Pryor (Will), Carey Robertson, Jonathan Rotureau (Emily), Anne Louise Robertson Brasfield (John Hardy) and James Rotureau (Lauren), five great grandchildren: Hardy Lee Brasfield, Caden Rotureau, Patton Rotureau, Layne Rotureau and John Lytle Brasfield, and several nephews and nieces.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at The Oaks at Pooler, especially her primary caregivers Misty Baker, Danielle Lane, and Beatrice Agyemang, and to Hospice of Savannah, particularly her nurse Franki Owens, RN. It was their love and compassion that made her last days as comfortable as possible.

Visitation will be at the Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home, 901 West Highway 80 in Pooler, Georgia on Wednesday April 12, 2023 from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m.
