Mrs. Betsy A. "Bets" Garner
Pooler-Mrs. Betsy A. "Bets" Garner, 52, passed away on Friday, February 11, 2011 at St.
Joseph's Hospital.
Bets was born in Wilson, NC and had lived in Pooler for 23 years. She was a founding
member of Morningstar Community Church and retired after 17 years as the Human
Resource Director at the Coastal Georgia Y.M.C.A. She was preceded in death by her
father, Charlie Tom Parker and her brother, Morrison "Mo" Parker. She adored her
grandchildren and enjoyed interior decorating. She was quite a fighter, having been a
juevenille diabetic, surviving Graves Disease and was a two-time cancer survivor.
Survivors include her husband, Tom Garner; daughter, Tommi Garner, grandchildren,
Alex and Danny, daughter Melissa Garner Achterberg and her husband, Royce,
grandchildren, Dillon and Clay, daughter, Heather Breeding and her husband, Adam,
grandchildren, Austin, Addison, Zoe and Rylie; mother, Nannie Elizabeth Parker; sister,
Lou Ann Batchelor and a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Celebration of Life service: 6 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of the funeral home.
