Betty Lois Stephens

Mrs. Betty Lois Stephens, 90, of Guyton, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at her home surrounded by her family.

Betty will be missed by her daughters, Elaine Barnwell (Greg-deceased), Susan Harvey (Mike-deceased), Glenda Smith (Mark), and Brenda Moore (Roger); grandchildren, Greg Barnwell (Courtney), Heidi Barnwell, Matthew Barnwell, Travis Barnwell (Megan), Michael Harvey (Misty), Chris Harvey, Forrest Harvey (Brandi), Lisa Hildebrant (David), Eric Smith (Cara), Chad Counts (Cassie-fiance), Cody Counts (Noel-fiance), and Cole Counts (Haylie); 28 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson; brother, Jimmy Williams (Kathy-deceased); sister, Wanda Crockett (Jerry), as well as many nieces and nephews.

Betty was born in Juliette, Georgia and was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny J. Stephens; parents, John H. Williams and Sarah Lunsford Williams; sisters, Lelia Harden and Eloise Finch; brother, Buddy Williams. Betty loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, loved her family, and was considered the Matriarch of the family. She was a wonderful and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She will be remembered for being compassionate, a good cook, funny, full of energy, a hard worker, drove a school bus for over 30 years with the Chatham County Board of Education, and was frugal. She will be missed.

The visitation will be on Thursday, August 13, 2026 from 11 a.m. until 12 noon at the funeral home. The funeral to honor Betty’s life will follow at 12 noon in the chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Eric Owens officiating. Mrs. Betty’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
