Obituary

Beverly T. Hathaway

Beverly Hathaway, a faithful and loving wife, mother, and grandma, attained the prize of "well done good and faithful servant" from her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 9, 2023 after 75 years of a life dedicated to loving and serving others.

In her time here on earth she accomplished much. Beverly was born to Ruth and Fred Thompson on July 21, 1948 in Savannah, Georgia. She was a member of Rainbow Girls where she served as the Worthy Advisor. She graduated from Savannah High School in 1966 and attended Armstrong State College where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority and received a degree in Elementary Education. Subsequently, she completed a Master's Degree in Education at Georgia Southern College. A dedicated teacher, she taught at many schools (Calvary Day School, Memorial Day School, Bryan County Elementary, and Guyton Elementary) and touched the lives of countless students throughout her long career. Jesus loves the little children, and so did Beverly.

For many years she was active in the Tippett Sunday school class at Calvary Baptist Temple, where she formed relationships that lasted for the remainder of her life. Upon moving to Guyton, Georgia in 1994, Beverly served in ministry with her husband, Rev. Johnny Hathaway, at the Savannah Baptist Assembly for eighteen years. As a founding member, she was an integral part of the early ministry of One Savior Church and served in women's ministry and on the finance team for many years. Additionally, she was the catalyst for the start of the Becoming the Crown Jewel Ministry, which is dedicated to teaching middle and high school girls about their identity and worth in Christ. In her retirement years she enjoyed volunteering at Manna House, being a part of the Guyton Women's Club and the Retired Educator's Association as well as spending time with her grandchildren. When they had the opportunity, Beverly and Johnny enjoyed spending time together traveling to see family, friends, and exploring new places.

A loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandma, Beverly is survived by her faithful husband of 50 years, Johnny; son and daughter- in -law, Jonathan and Naomi Hathaway; daughter and son- in -law, Danna and O'Neal Jones; her beloved grandchildren, Jasmine, Jaden, Jack, Cason, Darcy, and Emersyn, her brother and sister- in- law, David and Debra Hathaway, as well as many other family members and friends whom she cherished.

Throughout all of her life's endeavors her primary focus was always faithfully serving the Kingdom of God. Even when her activity wasn't done in ministry, she was pouring the love of God into those she served. Her legacy is one of eternal significance and continues through those she's influenced to love the Lord with all their heart, all their soul, and all their mind.

There will be a Celebration of Life service on Saturday, September 16th at 10:30 AM at One Savior Church at 289 Harley Road, Guyton, GA 31312.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Beverly's honor to the Georgia Baptist Children's Home in Baxley, Georgia.
