Beverly was born in Savannah, GA to the late Howard Ezell Peavy and Earle Burnsed Peavy. She was also preceded in death by her husband, the love of her life, Thomas Edward Long, Sr., and a nephew, Leslie Howard Peavy, Jr. Beverly was a lifetime teacher who felt the call to teach in first grade. She loved learning. After graduating from Georgia Teachers College, she returned to Marlow Elementary to begin her 33 year career as a teacher in various grades before becoming Lead Teacher. She enjoyed NASCAR, always rooting for Bill Elliott and, of course, her son on Friday nights at Oglethorpe Speedway where many saw her at the ticket booth. She enjoyed sewing and cooking for her family and others. In her later years, she loved watching the squirrels and birds in her yard. She received great joy when her grandchildren and great-grandchildren visited with her and she was able to read to them.
