Port Wentworth – Mr. Bobby A. "Bob" Harvey, 66, died on Sunday, February 26, 2012 after a long illness.
He was born in Statesboro, GA on October 21, 1945 to the late Thomas and Myrtice Harvey. Bob was a licensed funeral director having worked full and part time for the former Fountain Funeral Home in Port Wentworth, GA most of his adult life. Bob worked a number of years in law enforcement with various agencies including the FBI, Savannah, Chatham and Port Wentworth Police Departments and was Policeman of the year for Port Wentworth in 1981. He was a paramedic, working for Chatham county EMS and Mercy Ambulance and taught many EMTs in the Savannah area. He was a member of the Frank F. Baker Masonic Lodge #46 serving as Worshipful Master in 2002. Bob was a member of First Baptist Church of Port Wentworth where he served as a deacon.
Bob is survived by his wife of 45 years, Patricia Garrett Harvey; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Beverly Harvey; son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Stephanie Harvey; daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Jeff Whitlock; brother and sister-in-law, William and Sylvia Harvey; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephew.
The visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at the funeral home.
The funeral to honor Mr. Harvey's life will be at 12 noon on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Port Wentworth with Rev. John Ashworth officiating. Mr. Harvey will lie in state from 11 a.m. until 12 noon at the church which is located at 402 Pinehurst Place. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens located at 315 Greenwich Road in Savannah.
