Bobby L. Zipperer
Rincon – Bobby L. Zipperer, 84, passed away Saturday, January 16, 2016 at his residence surrounded by his loving wife, children, and grandchildren.
He was born February 4, 1931 in Effingham County to the late Holland L. and Minnie Zipperer; he was preceded in death by his sister, Marian Zipperer; brothers, William and Charles Zipperer; and sister-in-law, Frances Zipperer.
He graduated from Rincon School, was very active in sports excelling in baseball and basketball. He was inducted into the Effingham County Sports Hall of Fame. He was one of the organizers of the Oakridge Ball Park where county-wide church softball teams played for many years.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church for 78 years and a founding member of Bible Lutheran Church. He served as a delegate on the Ebenezer Board of Trustees. He retired from Stone Container after 34 years of service and served in the Army Air National Guard.
He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed waterskiing. He taught his children, their friends, and many family members to water ski. One of his passions was building secret fishing drops on Clarks Hill Lake, while on one of his many camping trips with his family and friends. He camped at Elijah Clark State Park for over 50 years.
One of his many hobbies was gardening. He prided himself in producing prize-winning sugar canefor the Effingham County Fair.
He is loved and will be missed by many. The family expresses their gratitude to the many friends, doctors, and care-givers.
Survivors include his wife of 64 plus years, , Dorothy Wilharm Zipperer; children, Janis (Nickey) Bevill , Alan (Elise) Zipperer, Kathy (Carroll) Zittrouer; grandchildren, Jamie Bevill, Melissa(Linny) Stone, Jeremy (Lindsey) Zittrouer, Devin Zipperer, Macy Zittrouer; great-grandchildren, Kaden, Kyler, and Kinsey Stone, Harrison and Claire Zittrouer; sister-in-law, Audrey Zipperer; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Bible Lutheran Church. Mr. Zipperer will lie in state from 12 noon.
Interment will be in the church cemetery.
