IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bonnie Eileen
(Wendt) Foster
October 19, 2024
Mrs. Bonnie Eileen (Wendt) Foster, 68, of Pooler, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2024.
A gathering of family and friends will be held in her honor on Thursday, November 7th, 2024, at the Crosswinds Golf Club in Pooler, GA from 11:30am- 2:30pm.
Born in Marshfield, Wisconsin she was the third of seven children born to the late Robert Charles and Mirth F. Cudmore Wendt.
As a young adult and college graduate, she moved from Wisconsin to California where she became an elementary school teacher, started a family and raised her two children before moving to Georgia 11 years ago with her beloved and adoring second husband, Geoffrey Foster, whom she loved adventuring with for the past 26 years.
Though cancer cut her spirited life short, Bonnie certainly did not let it dictate her existence for a second. She was a real 'go-getter', hardly anything could slow her down (except maybe a broken hip due to cancer- but even that she muscled her way through, walking the Camino de Santiago in Spain thereafter). She had a real passion for exploring new places. She loved to go sightseeing and be present in the world. She was creative and crafty and loved to think… a lot. She would strike up conversations with anyone- literally anyone! She made friends wherever she went, at restaurants, stores, even in airports. Somewhere, somehow people would know Bonnie.
She was always happy to share what she knew, whether it be a tip, trick, life experience, or 'word of the day'- that was the teacher in her. She was an avid reader and the best wordsmith- always able to explain the proper use of a word or phrase to her loved ones. She was a shortcut aficionado and could tell you the backroads to get anywhere. Should you need words of encouragement or motivation to get things done (or done faster), she was the one. She was the life of the party and would hit the dancefloor with or without you, heck she didn't even need a dancefloor; cue the music and she'd be singing and dancing. To see her loudly sing "Love Shack" by the B-52s while she drove in the car "bang, bang," banging enthusiastically on the steering wheel, was to witness pure Bonnie joy. She knew definitively what she liked and what she disliked, she was particular- but also particularly giving, loving, and full of zest and zeal for life and for the causes and people she stood by. She was the friend you wanted in your corner and the gal pal you called on for a good time doing anything: thrifting, walks, shopping, movie dates.
Though she liked sweet treats, she sugar-coated nothing. She always told you what was on her mind and rarely withheld her opinion (though at times you may have wished she had). She was fearlessly herself and largely unfiltered. She loved fiercely and was in the words of her grandson, "THE BEST Oma I could ask for, she's everything, she plays with me, she loves me, she goes places with me!" Oh, how she cherished spending time with her loved ones immeasurably.
When she wasn't spending time with loved ones or friends, she loved to volunteer, participate in groups or find ways to serve her community. She served as a Poll Worker, participated in Garden Club, Bowling Club, Bridge Club, did Recording for the Blind and enjoyed golfing. She never sat still for long. Bonnie was and will eternally be on-the-move; though she's no longer with us, one would suspect that she'll now be felt in the wind that swiftly blows by our faces as we move throughout life.
Though her passing leaves an unfillable void in our lives, those that survive her shall carry her in their hearts always.
Survivors include her husband, Geoffrey E. Foster; son and daughter-in-law, Travis B. Schlink (Elana); daughter and son-in-law, Crystal E. Hackman (Robert); grandson, Ethan Hackman; siblings, Sally Toth, Susan Hasche, Beverly Gibson, Daniel Wendt and David Wendt.
