Bradwell H. Usher
Springfield- Bradwell H. Usher, 75, died Monday, June 6, 2016 at Memorial Health.
The Effingham County native was a graduate of Effingham County High School. He had operated Springfield Dry Cleaners from the mid 1960's to the mid 1970's. From the late 1950's to the early 1960's he served as Springfield Assistant Fire Chief and from the early 1960's until 1980 he was the Fire Chief of Springfield. While serving as chief, he became one of three volunteer firemen to graduate as the first EMT's in Effingham County and was instrumental in establishing the first ambulance service in the county. He served two tours with the Army National Guard from the 1950's to late 1980's when he retired with over 20 years service. Bradwell was the Public Works Director for the City of Springfield from the mid 1970's until 2001. He had served Springfield and Effingham County for 50 years.
He is survived by his brothers, Robert E. Usher and W.R. Usher (Brenda); niece, Jamie Monroe (Eric); nephews, Mike and Kevin Usher; and several cousins.
Visitation: 6-8 pm Thursday, June 9, 2016 in the funeral home.
Burial will be private.
