Brittie Elberta (Scales) Motes Simmons passed away early May 31, 2018 at the Effingham Care Center after an extended battle with Alzheimer's.. She was 89 years old. She is preceded in death by her husband Elliott Dent Simmons and her daughter Susan Broome. She is survived by her children James Randall Motes (Sara), Teresa Ann Baxley (Ken), Joan Stafford (Stephen), and Danny Simmons (Fran), as well as 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Brittie was born in the mountains of Banks County, Georgia. She was always proud of her family farm that thrived despite the Great Depression. After World War 2, she met her first husband, James Motes. They moved to North Carolina and started a family. After James's death Brittie moved to Statesboro, Georgia. She then met and married E.D. Simmons. Brittie and E.D. settled in Brooklet, Georgia. They worked and hobby farmed their acreage in Brooklet.

During her life, Brittie excelled in many things. Among those were her quilts she made and the food she baked. Her greatest love was for her family.

Services will be held at Upper Black Creek Primitive Baptist Church at 2:00 PM on June 9, 2018.
