Mrs. Carol Rushing Freyne, 79, of Pooler, GA, passed away on Friday, September 22, 2023 at her home peacefully with her children by her side.
Carol was born in Savannah, GA. She was preceded in death by her parents Paul Leslie Rushing and Lucille Wells Rushing, her husband Michael V. Freyne, Jr. and a son-in-law Michael VanCleave. She had lived in Pooler since 1971 and was a former member of the Pooler Jaycees/Jaycetts which was instrumental in purchasing the first ambulance for the City of Pooler. She was a very active mother and homemaker, formerly serving as the PTA President for Pooler School. She enjoyed reading, canning, and was a wonderful seamstress. She enjoyed traveling and was a member of the Pooler Senior Citizens. She was a lifelong tent holder at the Tattnall County Campground and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Pooler. She retired after 20 plus years as a Personal Property Tax Assessor with Chatham County.
Survivors include her children, Denice VanCleave, Vincent Freyne and Amanda Whatley (Raymond); grandchildren, Evan VanCleave (Samantha), Mason VanCleave, Justin VanCleave (Carolyn), Jordan Whatley, Noah Whatley, Ivy Whatley, and Isabella Whatley; great-grandchildren, Weston VanCleave and Addalyn Mae VanCleave; sisters, Miriam Terrell (Robbie), Margie Wilson, and Paula Walling (Bruce); sister-in-law, Victoria Wall (Walt); honorary sister, June Kennedy as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The visitation will be on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral will follow at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home with burial to follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery located at 3447 Old Reidsville-Collins Road, Reidsville, GA.
