Rincon – Catherine L. Anderson, 86, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 12, 2012. She had been under the good care of Hospice Center of Charleston in Charleston, SC during the last week.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Ellen W. Hendrix, husband, Donald Anderson, her sister, Joyce Owens and Alma Lee Mikell, and her brother, Robert Hendrix.
Affectionately known as "Kitty", she and her late husband moved to Rincon in the early 60's where they opened "The Cloth Shop" in their home. This later became Anderson's Department Store, a familiar establishment in the heart of Rincon, and where Kitty spent most of her life. Soon after moving to Rincon, she joined the First Baptist Church where she was known as a faithful member and loved by all. She was a charter member of the first Lioness Club of Rincon, established in the early 70's and a strong supporter of her husband's work in the Lion's Club for many years before his death.
Her greatest joy was her family and friends. Her greatest legacy is that no one can ever remember her having ever said an unkind word to anyone or about anyone. She believed the best about everyone she met, and was always willing to give second chances when needed.
Survivors include her sister, Mildred Radford of Elizabethton, TN, Mary Radford of Rincon, and Billie Anthony of James Island, SC; a brother, Raymond Hendrix, Jr. of Swainsboro; and many nieces and nephews. Kitty was a "second-Mama" to many of the nieces and nephews, and will be remembered for giving away soft hugs, always accompanied by a sweet fragrance, a kind word, and a giggle.
Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 15, 2012 at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, April 16, 2012 at First Baptist Church of Rincon
Interment will follow in Rincon Cemetery.
A special thank you to her sister, Billie, who with grace and dignity, so lovingly cared for her this past year.
Remembrances may be given to Hospice Center of Charleston, 676 Wando Park Blvd., Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464.
