Catherine Boxxe DeWitt
1922 -2026
Mrs Catherine Boxxe DeWitt, 104, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2026 at her home.
Born in Savannah on January 22, 1922 to Harry Joseph Boxxe and Sarah Bertha Boxxe. She was the 5th of 8 siblings.
Her family moved to Pooler in 1929, when she was 7 years of age.
On May 4, 1942, after going together for 5 years, and while on a trip to West Palm Beach, FL to visit his family, she married LeRoy Edward DeWitt, Sr. After a short honeymoon, they returned to Pooler where she has lived since that time.
She accepted the Lord at age 9 at the Old Pooler First Baptist Church, where she still remains a member today.
Being a domestic engineer all of her married life, she enjoyed being a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. When she was able, she enjoyed working in the yard, playing the piano and traveling with her family.
Beside her parents, she is preceeded in death by her husband of 60 years and the love of her life, LeRoy E. DeWitt, Sr.; her daughter, Linda D. Lewis; son David A DeWitt; Sisters and brother-in-law Marie Sanders (Joe B.) and Frances Mae Boxxe; Brothers and sister-in-laws: Harry E. (Eloise), Joseph; W. Everett (Dot) Boxxe, George M. (Ruby) and Johnny D. (Joyce). She had a very special bond with each of her sister-in-laws and loved them like sisters. Son-in-law, R Ellis Bland; grandson, Brian D. Bland and great grandson; Kason W. DeWitt.
Survivors incude her children: JoAnn DeWitt Bland; LeRoy E. DeWitt, Jr (Wadelle) and son-in-law Robert J Lewis; twelve grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren and special Nieces and Nephews.
Visitation will be on Sunday, April 19, 2026 from 11 a.m. until 12 noon. The funeral to honor Catherine's life will follow at 12 noon in the chapel of the funeral home with burial to follow at Gravel Hill Cemetery with Pastor Brad Proudfoot officiating.
