Faulkville-Mrs. Catherine "Kitty" Lipe, 81, passed away on Monday, July 25, 2011 at Hospice Savannah.
Mrs. Kitty was born in Blackshear to the late Taft & Gladys DeLoach. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. "Bob" Lipe. She was a member of Ash Street Baptist Church where she also played the piano. She was the featured soloist in several orchestra bands in the late 1940's and 1950's and with several Big Bands in the 1960's. She was also the pianist with the gospel group "The Singing Laymen" of Bloomingdale. Mrs. Kitty was very involved with the Lakeside Athletic Association where she was the treasurer over 20 years and later became very involved with the Effingham County Recreation Department.
Survivors include her children, Deborah L. Smoak and Jeffrey Lane, both of Effingham County, Michael Lane of Bryan County and Johnna Seifert of Florida; grandchildren, Robert & Lisa Smoak, Joseph M. Lane, Justin M. Lane, Shayne Lipe'Lanoue, Sydney Seifert and Samantha Scott; three great-grandchildren, Garrison Smoak, Kendall Claxton and Karlye Claxton; daughter-in-law, Marcy Lane; son-in-law, Jody Seifert; sister, Donna Clark; brother, H.J. DeLoach and several nieces and nephews.
The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2011 in the chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Carlton Wiley officiating.
