Obituary

Port Wentworth – Cecil Franklin "Frank" Hodges, 84, of Pooler passed away early Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at Hospice Savannah. Mr. Hodges was a retired truck driver having worked for Colonial Oil for over twenty years. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the Savannah Detachment Dog Company of the United States Marine Corps, historically known as the "Chosin Few" and the "Frozen Chosin". The "Chosin Few" contained in the United States 1st Marine Division marched seventy miles into the mountains, in below zero degree weather, surrounding the Chosin Reservoir along side the Army's 7th Division and the British Royal Marines that was part of a final drive to defeat North Korea. Mr. Hodges as well as many of the other soldiers of the "Chosin Few" suffered from conditions such as frostbite and refused aid for their conditions due to their efforts to have "no man left behind". There is a monument honoring the men of the Savannah Detachment Dog Company located in Emmett Park near Bay street in Savannah, Georgia
Mr. Hodges was preceded in death by a daughter, Debbie Exley.
Surviving are his wife of over 64 years, Margaret "Lenora" Hodges of Port Wentworth; two daughters, Martha Smith (Wayne) of Pembroke, and Cindy Doud (Jim) of Guyton; a son, Douglas Hodges of Atlanta; two brothers; one sister; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Funeral: 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Interment: Hillcrest Abbey West.
