Mr. Cecil M. Tuten, 91, of Port Wentworth, passed away on Monday, August 14, 2017 at Candler Hospital.
Cecil was born in Varnville, SC to the late C. Murray & Ruby Tuten. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Peggy Ann Ginn Tuten. He was a 67 year member of Port Wentworth United Methodist Church where he had served as choir director and had taught Sunday School. He served his country in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific Theater. He was an avid wood worker and was a self-employed contractor before retiring from Stone Container.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Ray & Sue Tuten; daughter and son-in-law, Nanci & Cliff Tankersley; grandchildren, Drew & Allyson Tankersley, Erin & Kendall Carroll, and Holly Tuten; great-granddaughter, Andie Carroll; sister-in-law, Grace Ginn, and several nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Port Wentworth United Methodist Church from 10 until 11 a.m. followed by the funeral at 11 a.m. Rev. Gary Boyles and Rev. Grable Page officiated. Active pallbearers are David Warren, Glenn Hibberts, Nathaniel Riley, Al Fountain, Kenny Dumas, Drew Tankersley, David Lockhart, Rick Tidmand, and E.J. Williams. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
