Stillmore – Charles Bernard Ackerman, 81, passed away November 12, 2021 at his sister's residence.
The Effingham County native retired from the U.S. Navy, during his 20 years of service, he was a hospital corpsman on various ships, submarines and naval hospitals. He traveled the world, including both coasts of the U.S., the South Pacific, the South China Sea during the Vietnam War, Australia, New Zealand and more. After retiring from the Navy he then actively became his parent's caregiver, he was a loving son and brother. He was an avid reader, GA Bulldog and Atlanta Falcons fan and could tell some wicked dirty jokes. He loved and regularly put out food for whatever critter would wander by.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Lester Ackerman and Cora Kessler Ackerman; siblings, Rose (Bob) Canady, Gene (Jeanelle) Ackerman, and Bruce Ackerman.
Survivors include his nephew and caregiver, Ricky Canady; siblings, Brenda Helmly, Steve (Cheryl) Ackerman, and Nancy Ackerman Robbins; many nieces and nephews.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
