Mr. Charles Franklin Andrews, 62, of Meldrim, GA, passed away on September 19, 2017 at Eagle Health and Rehab under Affinis Hospice Care after a yearlong battle of cancer. Charles was born February 12, 1955 at Fort Hood in in Killeen, TX to the late Thomas Allen Andrews (Andy) Sr. & Charline Fain Andrews. He was an active member of the Meldrim United Methodist Church and also involved with the annual Effingham Methodist camp meetings. He was also a member of the Meldrim Vounteer Fire Department and served his country in the Army National Guard. He loved all sports, especially the Georgia Bulldogs. Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Dorothy N. Westberry Andrews, who currently works at The Savannah Morning News in the obituary department for more than 32 years; daughter, April Andrews Gerhold and her husband, Robert Gerhold, Jr.; son, David Charles Andrews; granddaughter, Harper Elaine Gerhold; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; mother-in-law, Nioma B. Westberry; a number of nieces and nephews, great nephews, a great niece; and four-legged babies: Daisy, Kandi and Navajo. He was preceded in death by brothers, Thomas Allen Andrews, Jr. and William (Bill) Fain Andrews; nephew, BJ Williams, and father-in-law, Henry M. Westberry. Visitation: Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral: Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Meldrim United Methodist Church located at 219 3rd Street in Meldrim. Mr. Andrews will lie in state at the Church one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will follow at Brewton Cemetery in Hagan, GA. Active Pallbearers will be his nephews, Jason Andrews, Stephen Andrews, Michael Hutchinson, Christopher Hutchinson, James Buck, Clifton Stokes, Steven Plumley and Justin Bradley. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Senior Sunday School Class from Meldrim United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be given to the Meldrim United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 49, Meldrim, GA 31318 or to the Methodist Campground in Springfield, 306 West First Street, Springfield, GA.
