Obituary

Charles B. "Chuck" Kellam, Sr.

All this attention would have embarrassed Daddy. Just not his thing.

Born and raised in the hills of Virginia, Daddy found the love of his life, Maner Patterson, in Savannah, the Army Air Corps having brought him here.

To him, Mama was a princess.  No, queen!

They were inseparable lovebirds for SEVENTY YEARS!

To them were born Charles, Jr. "Charlie" (Vicki) of New York City, Patricia (Tricia) K. Thomas, and Margaret K. Dixon (Sonny), all in Savannah.

Beloved grandchildren:  Emily Dixon (Patrick Ethridge) of Rincon, and Richard Thomas (Alex), Jacksonville, FL. And oooh, his treasured great grand, Meredith Grace Ethridge.

Daddy helped keep the sugar refinery humming for some forty years.

A man of deep faith, he was an Elder Emeritus at Chapel-in-the-Gardens Presbyterian Church.

His hands were massive, strong, and capable.  The man built three houses with his own hands!

In later decades, he plunged into woodworking.   You've NEVER seen such well-crafted furniture! Stained glass masterpieces, too.

Ever comfortable in his own skin, he was a master in the kitchen.  Without a recipe, he created sumptuous feasts and relished the enjoyment of those of us fortunate enough to sit at his table.

The man could sew anything. He made Margaret's prom dress! Many of Mama's finest clothes were fashioned and crafted by Daddy.

We bragged on all of it, though praise embarrassed him.

Responses to our Facebook posts announcing his death prompted apt descriptions, foremost "kind," along with humble, faithful, caring, giving and many more.

Daddy prayed for his release from suffering, and the Lord granted his faithful servant's wish…a Christmas blessing.

He was our rock, our foundation, our strength and more.

Daddy left his indelible mark on all our hearts.

The Funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 in the chapel of the Thomas C. Strickland & Sons funeral Home, 901 Hwy 80 W., Pooler, GA.  All CDC and social distancing guidelines will be in place, including the wearing of masks (Chatham County Mandate).
