After a courageous battle with cancer, Charles LeRoy Strickland, age 74, died at home in the care of Hospice and his loved ones on December 29, 2015.
Charles was born on February 5, 1941 in Savannah, Georgia, to the late Pharis LeRoy Strickland and Ella Seckinger Strickland. He was a graduate of Effingham County High School. He and the former Jacquelyn Ruth Elkins enjoyed 54 years of marriage. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Springfield.
Charles was retired from the United States Army and the Army National Guard after proudly serving his country for 21 years. He was also retired from GTE Telephone Company after 24 years of service, and Effingham County Sheriff's Office after 10 years.
Charles was a member of Masonic Lodge #440 in Springfield, Scottish Rite of Free Masonry of Savannah, American Legion Post 209 in Springfield, and the Georgia Salzburger Society.
Survivors include his beloved wife Jacquelyn Strickland; one son Charles Anthony "Tony" Strickland; one daughter Lori Ann Causey (Derril); one granddaughter Karmen Nicole Vongprachanh (Kitto); one grandson Skyler Ray Causey; one great-grandson Milo Max Vongprachanh; one sister Mary Sue Burns; one aunt Mildred Strickland, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 31st in the chapel of Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home. Visitation will precede the funeral from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. Interment will be in Springfield Cemetery Annex.
