Newington – Mr. Charles W. Stone, 76, passed away on Monday, September 25, 2023 at Hospice Savannah after battling an extended illness.
Mr. Stone was born in Alapaha, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny W. Stone and Melba D. Stone; and brother, William "Billy" Stone. He was a member of the Rincon First Baptist Church. He was a retired railroad signal maintainer. Dedicated to his trade, Mr. Stone was employed by Seaboard Railroad and CSX for 42 years. Besides his passion for trains, the devoted husband of 56 years loved animals. Along with his wife, Mr. Stone rescued and cared for numerous abandoned cats and dogs over the years. The doting father enjoyed coaching his sons' Little League baseball teams. He was also an avid fisherman and enjoyed reading and learning about history.
Mr. Stone was a remarkable man of many talents. Regardless of whether he was planting a bountiful garden, doing carpentry work, fixing vehicles, or making a cast net, Mr. Stone skillfully got the job done with patience and attention to detail. Down-to-earth and friendly, Mr. Stone never met a stranger. The loving father absolutely adored western movies and television shows. One of his all-time favorites was "Gunsmoke." While he will be greatly missed, Mr. Stone will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Linda T. Stone; children, Eddie Stone (Olivia) and Keith Stone (Jennifer); grandchildren, Bella Stone and Zane Stone; brothers, Clifton Stone (Ann), Mike Stone (Candy), and Joey Stone (Charlotte); sister-in-law, Debbie Stone; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 28, 2023 at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Friday, September 29, 2023 in the funeral home chapel.
Interment will follow in Rincon Cemetery.
