Guyton – Charles D. Strickland, 69, passed away Thursday, December 16, 2010 at Effingham Hospital.
The Georgia native was a longtime resident of Guyton where he served 2 terms on the city council and was a member of the Guyton Jaycees. He retired from M & M Supermarkets and served in the U.S. Army Reserves during Vietnam. He was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church and formerly sang in the church choir, assisted with the RA's, and coached softball.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia S. Strickland of Guyton; daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Doug Saxon; 2 grandchildren, Brayden and Ashton Saxon all of Rincon; mother, Dorothy Strickland of Savannah; 3 brothers, David Strickland of Savannah, Richard Larry Strickland of La Plata, MD, and James Michael Strickland of Hendersonville, TN; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Bethesda United Methodist Church with funeral services at 4 p.m.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
