Guyton – Charles Murphy Williams, Sr. 84, passed away July 18, 2025 at Ogeechee Area Hospice.
The Effingham County native served in the U.S. Army and retired from the Ironworker's Local #709 where he was a proud member and passionate about his craft and was dedicated to the strong union support. He took pride in building structures that shape Savannah and the surrounding areas. He enjoyed taking his camper to Bluegrass festivals and spending time with friends brought him great joy. He loved to catch a fish and plant a garden, but most of all he cherished the time spent with his daughter who was always nearby.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Arthur Williams and Carrie Virginia Williams; son, Charles Murphy "Skipper" Williams, Jr.; his wife, Mary Ruth Van Doren Williams; brother, Herman Williams; and sister, Myra "Ticka" Lewis.
Survivors his daughter, Alison Collins (Earl); step-children, Sherry Cruz Foskey, Julie Daughtry, James Al Foskey, and Michael Foskey; grandchildren, Hailey Scruggs (Jake) and Macy Smith (Troy); great-grandchildren, Jacob Daughtry and Julian Miller; numerous step-grandchildren; siblings, Terry Williams, Betty Williams, and Nell Bragg; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 12 noon Monday, July 21, 2025 at the funeral home followed by funeral services at 12 noon in the chapel.
Interment will follow in Effingham Memorial Gardens.
