Guyton- CMSgt Jimmy R. Murrell, 41, passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2024, at 2:13 pm at Memorial Health in Savannah, GA, surrounded by family.
Chief Master Sergeant Jimmy Murrell joined the United States Air Force in his senior year of high school at Effingham County High. After high school graduation in 2001, he attended basic training at Lackland AFB in Texas and graduated basic training on September 9, 2001. Shortly thereafter, he was assigned to vehicle maintenance. Throughout his career, he was deployed numerous times, fighting for his country through Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn. He was assigned to the 165th Airlift Wing as the Vehicle Maintenance Chief Enlisted Manager. Jimmy last deployed to Florida for a recovery and relief mission following Hurricane Ian. His major awards and decorations include a meritorious service medal, Army Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
Jimmy was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. He enjoyed catching critters of all kinds, hunting and shooting/collecting guns. He took pride in helping friends and family with his extensive mechanical skills. Jimmy was also a Den Leader for the Webelos Pack 295.
He is survived by his wife Shana Murrell; children, Alexis Murrell, Bailey Murrell, Cole Murrell, and Hailie Eastman; mother, Sheri Goodwin (Cary); father, Gil Murrell (Lesa); brother, Jonathon Murrell (Jessica); sisters, Lacey Buxton (Jon) and Shelby Smith (Paul); nieces and nephews, Jentrie Murrell, Kirsten Bidwell (Nick), Dakota Burgess, Ethan Buxton, and Alaina Smith; aunts, Charlotte Dean and Jackie Murrell; father and mother-in-law, Milton and Debbie Davis; and sister-in-law, Amber Burgess.
