Obituary

Cristy Jane ("Peaches" ) McElveen, 66, passed away on October 17, 2021 .  Cristy grew up in Pooler, Georgia  and in recent years resided in Bloomingdale, Georgia.  She was a graduate of the School of Radiologic Technology at Memorial Medical Center in 1974,  and worked for several years as an x-ray technologist at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah.

She was preceded in death by her father William Carlous (W.C.) McElveen, mother Ruth McBurney McElveen, and sisters Sheryl McElveen Packer and Debra McElveen Stewart.  Cristy is survived by her twin sister Kathy McElveen Symonds of Savannah, Ga and sister Judith (Judy) Mann of Raleigh NC,  as well as several nieces and nephews.

Cristy loved nature and the outdoors, caring for animals, coastal boating and beaches, and music. She enjoyed photography and was active in numerous softball leagues in her earlier years.  Both kind and thoughtful, she will be remembered for her "Heart of Gold"  and how she genuinely cared for others and loved unconditionally.

She attended Central Baptist Church in Garden City.  Memorial services for Cristy will be held 11 am. on Friday, October 22, 2021 in the Chapel of Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home, 901 W. Highway 80, Pooler, Georgia, with Rev. Kenny Harrelson officiating.

The family extends sincere thanks to the broad community of friends and caregivers who have supported and cared for Cristy during her illness—including the staff at Resorts at Pooler and Hospice of Savannah.  She will be missed dearly, especially by her identical twin Kathy, who was a dedicated caregiver by her side for so many years.
