Obituary

Mr. Danny Hyland Braswell
Black Creek-Mr. Danny Hyland Braswell, 59, died peacefully on Monday, April 28, 2008
at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah as a result of brain cancer.
Born in Swainsboro, Georgia, he grew up in Bryan County and graduated from Southeast
Bulloch High School in 1966. He began work at Southern Bell and served the company
for 41 years in various capacities including assistant manager, supervisor and Specialist in
Network and Operations. He was well known throughout the state for his knowledge of
the telephone system and leadership capabilities and became dubbed as "the brains
behind telephone networking." He served in the United States Navy and was stationed in
Guam, San Diego and Charleston and received an honorable discharge from the Navy.
Danny was an active and dedicated member of the Pembroke Holy Church of God. An
avid outdoorsman who loved to fish with his eight year-old grandson, he was also a
member of the Tar City Hunting Club in Bryan County and the Telephone Pioneers of
Georgia. Family, friends and neighbors knew Danny as a master chef. He loved
entertaining and was locally known for his fine barbeque and fried fish. He enjoyed the
holiday seasons volunteering to fry turkeys for any neighbor or friend that dropped by.
Danny also had a woodworking shop and enjoyed making special pieces of furniture for
others, especially for his two daughters. Danny shared his passion for gardening with
others by planting enough vegetables in his garden to share with community members.
Living life to its fullest and loving people was Danny's way. He was a walking testament
of his faith and he leaves behind for his family the gift of the joy of knowing he is finally
home and fully well again.
Danny is survived by his loving and supporting wife of 40 years, Ophelia Rowe Braswell,
two devoted daughters and their husbands, Delia B. (Chip) Mobley of Statesboro, Lisa B.
(Mike) Bohannon of Guyton; grandsons, Danny James Bohannon and Wesley Hyland
Bohannon; his parents, Eugene and Imogene Braswell of Bryan County; four sisters,
Dianne (James) Lamb of Brunswick, Dale (Kenny) Holcombe of Bloomingdale, Darlene
