Rincon – Danny Moody, 77, passed away August 6, 2023 at his residence after a long illness.
Danny grew up in Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia and attended local public elementary, junior high and high school. Danny graduated from Savannah High School in 1964. After graduation, Danny served in the U.S. Army. Danny completed basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and then completed advanced infantry and ranger training at Fort Polk, Louisiana. He then was assigned to the Big Red One, 1st & 16 Infantry "Ranger" Battalion at Lai Kae, South Vietnam for a one year tour of duty. Danny received the Bronze Star Medal with "V" for Valor, the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal with "V" for Valor, the National Defense Service Medal, the U.S. Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Medal with Silver Star, the (C.I.B.) Combat Infantryman Badge. Commemorative Medals include: Combat Service, Overseas Service, Honorable Service, American Defense, and Republic of Vietnam Service. Danny also received the Sharp Shooter Medal for the M14 rifle, and the Expert Medal for the 45 pistol, the M60 machine gun and the 81 mm mortar.
After his service in the U.S. Army, he began his career in the Aerospace Industry in 1968 with Grumman Aerospace (the manufacturer of Gulfstream Business Jets) at Savannah, Georgia where he was a Lead Man on the manufacturing floor before becoming a Manufacturing Engineer in the Planning Department. Grumman Aerospace later became Gulfstream Aerospace, and in 1999, became a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics. Danny retired from Gulfstream with 42 years of service in the aircraft industry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie Gordon Moody and Natalie Hendrix Moody.
Survivors include his wife, Janice Sheppard Moody; son, Michael Christopher Moody (Monica Lynn); grandchildren, Michael Christopher Moody, II (Alicia), Mickayla Moody Bentley (William), and Makenz Moody Legerski (Blake); great-grandchildren, Michael Christopher Moody, III and Emma Rose Moody; brother, Ronnie Moody; sister, Debbie Kirby (Sammy); and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, August 10, 2023 followed by funeral services at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
Interment will follow in Effingham Memorial Gardens.
