Pooler – Debbie Ruth Callaway Stafford, 77, died at home Wednesday, July 18, 2012. Born August 2, 1934 in Tattnall County, GA, she was the daughter of the late Samuel G. Callaway and the late Mattie Leen Massey Callaway. She is preceded in death by granddaughters, Katherine and Samantha Huggins; sisters, Wilma Sapp and Willie Tapley; and a brother, Curtis G. Callaway.
Ruth moved to Pooler with her husband and children in 1959. She was a member of Pooler First Baptist Church. She loved children and has touched the lives of many over the years by serving as a first grade Sunday school teacher for 15 years, a Girl Scout leader and caregiver to many. Ruth also enjoyed gardening and sewing.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Millard Winfield Stafford, Jr.; three daughters, Debra (Lewis) Herrin, Renee (Joey) Herndon and DeNorah (Walt) Huggins; son, Wendell Stafford, eight grandchildren, Lara (Darren) Harrison, David Herrin, Leah Herrin, Adam Herndon, Erin (Jarrett) Walden, Erica Herndon, Natalie Huggins and Evan Huggins; three great grandchildren, Emma Harrison, Aiden Harrison and Parker Walden; brother, Wallace Callaway; sister, Beverly Mattson and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 22, 2012 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Otis Hill officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
