Springfield – Deborah Christain Cowart, 73, passed away August 4, 2023 at Effingham Hospital.

The Chatham County native retired from Effingham County Probate Court.  She loved to read, go to Disney World, and fishing with her grandson Waylon.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sidney R. Christain, Sr. and Evelyn Weeks Christain.

Survivors include her daughter, Emily Courtenay (Chuck); grandsons, Waylon Courtenay and Drew Courtenay; sister, Karen C. Deal (John); brothers, Skipper Christain (Sandy) and David Christain; nieces and nephews, Lauren Butler (Troy), Adam Deal (Rachel), Andrew Christain (Jessica), Wesley Christain (Ansley), Jessica Javo (Gary), Michael Christain (Mary Michael), Bryan Christain (Morrin), Amie Pharis (Josh), Katie Nixon, and Timothy Nixon; and a number of great-nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday, August 7, 2023 at the funeral home followed by funeral services at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.
