Mrs. Deborah Scott Smith, 69, of Meldrim, passed away on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at St. Joseph's Hospital.
She was born in Savannah and was preceded in death by her father, Walter Butler, her first husband, Alton L. Scott, and a daughter, Jennifer Lyn Scott. She retired from the Effingham County Board of Education after 30 years of service, and had played the organ and piano at Elam-Egypt Baptist Church and Meldrim Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Pete Smith; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rachael & Scott Dudley, Nancy & Kenny Poole; mother, Mildred Newman; grandchildren, Caroline & Casey Crosby, Matthew & Kelsie Dudley, Andy & Amber Poole, D.J. Poole, Shelby Poole, Charly Poole, and Ransom Poole; five great-grandchildren; sister, Gwen Kaiser; several nieces and nephews.
The graveside funeral and burial will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 3 rd at Oak Hill Cemetery in Meldrim with Rev. David Riner officiating.
