Obituary

The earthly life of Dollie Murphey Rahn, 92, ended February 3, 2022, at Effingham Care Facility.  Dollie and her twin sister, Mollie, were born December 15, 1929, to Inez and Llewellyn Murphey in Pelly, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Mollie, her son, Raymond Wike Jr, sons-in-law, Ronald Moore and Roger Spikes, and her husband of fifty-three years, Barton T. Rahn. She is survived by five daughters: Charlotte (Mikell) Johnson, Patricia (Ritchie) Dickey, Nell (Lavon) Igou, Sharon Moore, Lynn Spikes; one son John (Mary) Rahn; eighteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and many other beloved relatives.

Dollie lived in Texas until she moved to Savannah, Georgia with her mother and stepfather, Inez and Cecil Turner, during World War II.  After the war, Inez and Cecil moved to Springfield to build and run a public swimming pool. After the end of a short marriage, Dollie and her son, Raymond, moved to Springfield, to help run the Turner's Swimming Pool. Dollie met and married William (Billy) Exley while working at the pool. They moved to Rincon, Georgia where they worked on his family's farm and had five daughters, Charlotte, Pat, Nell, Sharon, and Lynn. Dollie and Billy were divorced after seven years of marriage. Dollie moved to Springfield with her six children, where she met her forever sweetheart, Barton Rahn.  They were married March 5, 1959 and moved to a farm outside of Springfield. Barton worked in Savannah, Dollie was a housewife and mother, and they both worked on the farm. They had one son, John. When John started school, Dollie went to work at a coffee shop as a waitress. After a short time, she went to work at Desoto Hilton as a waitress on the banquet staff.  She worked at Desoto Hilton for ten years and later for Quality Inn near Savannah Airport, where she worked until she retired. She was long-time member of Rincon Baptist Temple.

Dollie will be most remembered for her work ethic. She stayed busy with farm work and later her job as a waitress, housework, cooking, yard work, sewing or crocheting. To her working was as natural as breathing. She always felt the need to either be working hard or working toward something. When Dollie needed assisted living, she went to Effingham Care Facility. Her family will forever be grateful for the loving care she received there and to Pruitt Health Hospice for making her final days as comfortable as possible.

Dollie was deeply loved by her immediate and extended family. While she will be deeply missed, her spirit is indelibly printed on their lives and none of them will ever forget her.

The Visitation will be Saturday, February 5, 2022 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at the funeral home; followed by the Memorial Service, in the chapel of the funeral home. The Graveside service will be at Rincon Cemetery, where Dollie will be laid to rest by her husband, Barton Rahn.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests remembrances be sent to Rincon Baptist Temple, Effingham Care Center, Activities Department, The Alzheimer's Association, or Pruitt Health Hospice.
