Pooler - Donna Mae Gates Woods, Born on August 9, 1931 in Vandalia, Fayette Co., Illinois to the late Oscar Lee Gates and Ethel Mae Brotherton. She married Calvin Eugene Woods on January 3, 1953 in Joplin, Missouri. Donna died Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at Tara Nursing Home in Thunderbolt, GA after a long illness of heart troubles.
Donna was a member of South Newington Baptist Church. She traveled extensively during her marriage, working and living in Oregon and Alaska. Eugene and Donna retired in west Chatham County. Donna worked for a time at Wal-Mart in Pooler but was mostly a working housewife, mother and grandmother who nursed her late husband until he passed in 1999.
She is survived by her sons, Charles Thomas (Tommy) Woods, and Donald Wayne (Donnie) Woods both of Chatham County; daughter, Donna Louise Woods of Alaska; and one surviving grandson, Tommie Woods, Jr.
There will be a Memorial Service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at South Newington Baptist Church in Bloomingdale.
