Dora Ferguson

Nov 6, 1929 — Oct 17, 2026

Dora Ferguson was born in Effingham County, Georgia, to the late Birdie and William Perry. She was a devoted wife to Walter Ferguson, a loving mother of thirteen children, and a cherished grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.

Dora devoted her life to her family. She lovingly cared for her husband until his passing and opened her home to her grandchildren, especially during the summer months, creating memories they will treasure forever.

She found joy in life’s simple pleasures. Whether sitting in her favorite chair enjoying scratch off tickets, watching birds and animals outside her window which she affectionately called “Paradise” or tending to her garden, Dora was happiest surrounded by the things she loved. She had a remarkable green thumb, grew fresh vegetables, cared for her flowers, and gathered eggs from her chicken coop to prepare home cooked meals for her family. Her hands were always busy, and her heart was always giving.

Above, all, Dora was a woman of strong faith. Her Bible was always by her side, and she treasured sitting in her favorite chair reading Scripture and writing letters to God. Her faith was her strength and her source of comfort throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter Ferguson; parents, Birdie and William Perry; siblings, Bernice, Christine, Lucius, and Sammy; and children, Allen, William, Charles, and Carl.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Hashem (Mary Lou), Juanita, Geneva (Anthony), Estelle, Keith, Joseph (Mattie), Alfred, Alvin (Johnnie May), and Chrissy; along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, extended family, and friends.

The family extends special gratitude to her daughter, Geneva Johnson Wright, for her devoted caregiving, companionship, and unwavering love. We also sincerely thank Miss Iris Little, Miss Dee, Miss Veronica Riley, Chance Cope, and Alving Johnson for their kindness, compassion, and loving care. Your dedication and presence will never be forgotten.
