Garden City: Mrs. Doris Stokes Burgess, 77, died February 10, 2008, at St. Joseph Hospital.
She was born in Savannah and lived all of her life in Savannah and Garden City. She was a homemaker who dedicated her life to taking care of her family and friends. She was an avid gardener and had a special love for her flowers, specially her day lilies..
She was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Estelle Stokes, a son, William Burgess, a granddaughter, Emily Burgess, and two brothers, John Paul Stokes and James Robert Stokes. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, W. D. Burgess, a daughter Patricia Lawrence, two sons, Dennis P. Burgess and Andra R. Burgess, brothers, Waring E. Stokes, Charles Henry Stokes, and William Earl Stokes, sisters, Christine Jarrell and Nell Stokes, grandchildren, Dennis Paul, Melina, Dena, Les, Jason, Sarah, Jessica, Amanda, Justin and Brian, great grandchildren, Treleigh, Layla, Tiffani, Allie, Kenzie, Devin, Cameron, and Hailey, several special nieces and nephews, and special friends, Helen Love and the Kirby family from Swainsboro, Ga.
Visitation will be from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. Tuesday at Thomas C. Strickland and Sons Funeral Home (Westside Chapel) in Pooler.
Graveside services will be 3 P.M. Wednesday at Elkins Cemetery on Highway 204.
The family expresses a special thanks to Dr. Anthony Costrini and his staff and to the nurses and staff of the St. Joseph's Hospital ICU.
