Doris Young Flythe
Doris Young Flythe, 88, passed away peacefully in Raleigh, NC on November 15, 2016. Doris was born and raised in Savannah, GA, daughter of the late William H. and Mary D. Young. She was predeceased by her husband of 36 years, Dr. Grady Paul Flythe, Sr.; sisters, Elaine Clark and Betty Kessler; and brother, William (Bill) H. Young Jr.
She is survived by her son Paul Flythe (Nancy) of Burke, VA and daughter Lauri (Alan) Hilyer of Raleigh, NC; her grandchildren Trey (Dani) Flythe, Tucker Flythe, Noel Hilyer & Abby Hilyer. Doris lived most of her adult life in Springfield, GA where she & Grady raised their family. She was an active member of the Springfield United Methodist Church, where over the years she sang in the Choir, helped with MYF and taught Sunday school.
Most notably, Doris served as a Springfield City Council member for a few years before serving as Mayor of Springfield for some 19 years. She truly enjoyed representing the town that she loved throughout her tenure as a public servant.
A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday, November 19, 2016 at Springfield United Methodist Church, 210 Cleveland St., Springfield, GA 31329. Visitation will be at the church beginning at 11:00am with the funeral service to follow at 12:00pm. Interment will be in Effingham Memorial Gardens.
