Obituary

Port Wentworth-Mrs. Doris Kessler Helvey, 89, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at Candler Hospital.
Mrs. Doris was born in Effingham County to the late Perry & Roxie Kessler. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Helvey, and brothers, Hampton Kessler and Emory Kessler. She was a member of Port Wentworth United Methodist Church where she had served as Secretary/Treasurer of the U.M.W., and volunteered with Meals on Wheels. She had also served as a volunteer with voter registration in Port Wentworth.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Charles & Winnie Helvey of Melbourne, FL; two daughters and a son-in-law, Judy & Richard O'Neal of Garden City, and Sharon Hoffman of Savannah; grandchildren, Taryn Himmelright (Jeff), Kyle Helvey (Kelli), Shannon Speights (Andy), Patrick O'Neal (Kim), Michael O'Neal (Lauren), Brian Hoffman (Jaime), Jason Hoffman, and Lacey Garrastegui (Emanuel); 17 great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, May 11th at the funeral home.
The Graveside funeral and burial will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 12th at Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery located at 1336 Dean Forest Road in Garden City. Honorary Pallbearers will be Patrick O'Neal, Michael O'Neal, Brian Hoffman, Jason Hoffman, and Emanuel Garrastegui.
