Obituary

Doris Scott Miller, 93, of Venice, FL, formerly of Savannah, passed to her heavenly home on Tuesday, June 26 th surrounded by loving family and caring staff at Manor Care.

Born in Norfolk, VA on November 9, 1924, Doris was active in the Methodist church throughout her adult life, including more than 30 years at the former Venice-Nokomis UMC.  She and her husband, Charles (Charlie) Miller came to Venice from Savannah in 1981 and plunged right into a retirement built around service to others.  Other than her family, Doris was most proud of her 31 years with Venice Regional Hospital's volunteer auxiliary.  She retired with more than 11,000 hours of service, primarily in the surgery waiting lounge.  As a retirement gift, the volunteers gave her an inscribed brick placed in the garden area by the front entrance.

An exceptional cook and baker, she baked love into every bite.  She was known far and wide for "Doris' World Famous Cheese Straws" and many other special goodies such as her amazing brownies, pineapple dream pie, and the rare and wonderful black bottom pie.  Her legacy will live on in the recipes she was happy to share.

Her game was bridge and her best friends were made over the card table where, in addition to cards, they shared their trails and triumphs and prayers for family members.

Welcoming her to heaven are her parents, Thomas & Martha Scott; brother, Tommy Scott; sister, Myrtle Hedspeth; grandson, Cliff Miller & her loving husband of 49 years, Charles E. "Charlie" Miller.
